Oriental Rugs

Oriental rugs have been known in Asia for hundreds upon hundreds of years. Each Asian country and region contributed its own peculiarities to the fine art of weaving oriental rugs. Let’s have a look at history and discover what oriental rugs happened to live through.
Oriental rugs were first made by nomadic and settled cultures that were heavily indulged in animal husbandry and kept moving from one region to another taking all their cattle with them.

They needed oriental rugs as furniture that was easy to carry around. Later the weaving of the oriental rugs spreaded to nearly all the asian nations and each one of those nations added specific accents to their oriental rugs.

For example, oriental rugs with dragons and lotuses are sure to be Chinese, while letters and verses from Koran are signs of Persian and Islamic influences. Oriental rugs were brought to Europe by Marco Polo and merchants travelling to Asia.

Nowadays oriental rugs can be found in any country of the world. Some of the oriental rugs are made in Asia and distributed around the globe. Other oriental rugs are made by local professionals, sometimes immigrants from traditional oriental rugs weaving regions of the world or their descendants. No matter where your oriental rugs were made, it is their quality and design that you should appreciate first.
